20 best movies of 2017 .... and 10 worst turkeys
Here we are at the end of the seventh year of the every film challenge and I begin, as usual with hand-wringing.
No, I didn't get around to the latest Jumanji - frankly it didn't entice me enough.
Sadly, I didn't make the The Disaster Artist - I made an error of thinking it was being shown in Derby this weekend and it wasn't. It is, without doubt the big omission of the year - although Goodbye Christopher Robin was also a miss.
As were many others - in fact, about 200 in total.
This was my worst years in terms of Indian films but my best in terms of the UK box office top 100 (only one missing).
I had not thought it was a great year for movies with the avalanche of sequels and remakes but I was stirred by each entry in my top 20 which has a staggering variety.
My total of films watched is 43 better than last year but 118 worse than my best (2012). I could make excuses about nearly losing my dad, establishing my own business etc etc etc.
I shall instead say that I will try better in 2018.
And with that I shall wish all my readers and the distribution companies who also support my efforts a very Happy New Year. Your encouragement continues to make this endeavour worthwhile.
