PITCH PERFECT 3
Cert 12A
93 mins
BBFC advice: Contains moderate sex references, language, comic violence
With the days of 2017 fast running out there are now clear choices which have to be made about the final four or five movies of this year's challenge.
Miss W's presence meant that we were prompted to tick off the final (let's hope) episode in the Pitch Perfect saga.
Two years ago, I wrote of the Pitch Perfect sequel: "It falls short of the original but is that going to stop the studio making Pitch Perfect 3? What do you think?
The problem is that there is simply nowhere to go for director Trish Sie to go so she ends up with a storyline which is just stupid as opposed to funny.
All of the original stars have returned but this time their acapella group, the Bellas, is not striving to win a competition but is, instead, on tour with the US forces.
Yep, Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson, Brittany Snow and co. are hitting Europe.
Oh, and they are out to impress a fella called DJ Khaled whom I reckon will be unknown to most of the British cinema-watching public but is made out to be as famous as Mick Jagger.
Inevitably, the plot, which is truly lamentable, is a sideshow to the singing (Kendrick is particularly good) and the comic antics, led by Wilson's foul-mouthed Fat Amy.
John Lithgow pulls out his second dud of Christmas, following up Daddy's Home 2 with a weird contribution as Amy/Patricia's villainous dad.
Oh, and the girls fall for respective hunks and vice versa (even the most unlikely one).
And, of course, the singing is backed by commentary by comic duo Elizabeth Banks and John Michael Higgins - but even their jokes have lost their zest.
And that's it - the pips have surely been squeezed out of the franchise.
Or have they? I wouldn't bet against Pitch Perfect 4.
Reasons to watch: the singing and dance routines
Reasons to avoid: its lamentable plot
Laughs: a couple for Miss W, one for me
Jumps: none
Vomit: yes
Nudity: none
Overall rating: 5.5/10

zahrazamari_ If you liked Pitch Perfect so much then Pitch Perfect 2 ended up disappointing you to the point that you regret watching it then best believe that Pitch Perfect 3 was sent to fix all your broken hopes and dreams and restore all your faith in almost everything. 25 Dec 2017 at 09:24 |
