111. Mom And Dad; movie review

MOM AND DAD
Cert 15
86 mins
BBFC advice: Contains strong violence, threat, language, nudity, sex references

Nicolas Cage rolls his eyes into the back of his head and proves that he can open his mouth wider than any other Hollywood actor.
Yep, seen that before - along with the I'm-the-craziest-man-on-the-planet act.
I guess the difference to the usual backdrop for Cage's bonkersness this time is that his character is so deranged he is trying to kill his own kids.
For reasons which are never explained during Brian Taylor's Mom And Dad, parents in an American suburb have become obsessed with bumping off their own offspring.
This first manifests itself when home-time from school becomes a bloody carnage.
Thereafter, the fight fo survival concentrates on the children of Cage's character and his wife (Selma Blair).
Carly (Anne Winters) and Josh (Zackary Arthur) clearly have their work cut out because their mom and dad seem to have spent many an hour at the local hardware store buying the most dangerous of tools.
Anyway, Josh (why did he not go to school?) and Carly (why is she wearing a skirt so short that she is forever flashing her pants?) set about trying to outwit their parents who are foaming for their blood.
I know there are times when our children might get on our nerves but it is a bit much to take a hammer and drill to them, isn't it?
Mercifully, Mom And Dad only lasts for 86 minutes so Cage didn't have to roll those eyes for too long and his jaw would not have been aching too much.
Otherwise, it is a senseless blood fest which I didn't find funny at all - in common with many of Cage's screen outings.
I can't wait until he goes all crazy again.......

Director quote - Brian Taylor: "Even though I didn’t write it with him (Nicolas Cage) in mind, he personalised it and got the script right away. He just came back and he’s like, “This is me.”

The big question - How loose in Nicolas Cage's screw?
