Among the big hits being shown in main stream cinemas over the past month or so is a little heralded animation called Tad The Lost Explorer And The Secret of King Midas.
It had eluded my grasp, so I managed to sneak in a screening before we nipped off for our winter break in the Canaries.
And what I discovered was a surprisingly engaging and even moderately educational animation.
Of course, many po-faced critics have given it a hammering as they do to most children's films but I could see how boys and girls up to ten years old would find David Alonso and Enrique Gato's movie a lot of fun.
Trevor White gives the voice to Tad who is clearly a parody of Indiana Jones down to the striking Fedora.
He is in love with an archaeologist (Alex Kelly) who is researching the history of King Midas whose touch turned both animate and inanimate objects into gold.
They race to piece together the last elements of the king's puzzle ahead of a villain (Ramon Tikaram) who wants to bestow the Midas touch upon himself.
Oh, and the dynamic duo are also accompanied by a 500-year-old mummy (I thought mummies were much older than that), a parrot and a dopey dog who add the comedy elements.
The action moves to Spain and on to Turkey, so, alongside an understanding of ancient civilisations, the film throws in a bit of geography for eager minds.
But, on the whole, kids will be happy to lap up the fast-paced action tale which has more than a smidgeon of romance.
