Blimey, that's eerie. Ross Lynch really does look like a teenage Jeffrey Dahmer.
But, while the background of one of the world's most notorious serial killers will fascinate those of us of a certain age, I was wondering of how it would score with younger audiences.
Marc Meyers' movie has an authentic feel because it is based on the book of one of Dahmer's former classmates, John Backderf.
It relates to the time leading up to the first of Dahmer's 17 murders when he was just 18 years old.
Initially, Dahmer is portrayed as a loner who seeks solace from the arguing of his parents in a garden shed where he dissolves roadkill in acid.
Yep, Jeff sure had a weird hobby. He told friends that he had an interest in bones!
Backderf and Meyers seek to give their audience and understanding why Dahmer turned to murder while also giving in insight into his offbeat character.
Surprisingly, he became popular during his final year at high school because of his constant clowning around - but even that became rather sinister.
Those intrigued by the Dahmer story or what motivates or goes through the mind of a serial killer will be impressed by Meyers' movie.
The detail certainly marries with what I have read about Dahmer's early life and is presented in a way which allows the audience to make its own mind up.
Indeed, I was surprised by the lack of moral judgment. Dahmer is portrayed as odd and obsessive with an unconventional home life but certainly not mad.
But those who might be expecting an analysis of his killing spree will be disappointed. The film ends just as the murders are about to begin.

Director quote - Marc Meyers: " I didn’t want the movie to give a diagnosis, because it’s not my job to make you say ‘that’s the moment he snapped’. It’s just capturing a gradual decline of a kid, who is wired wrong, losing his sanity, and the people around him missing the signs."

The big question - How did he get away with it for so long?
