BBFC advice: Contains string bloody violence, gore
Blimey, some film-makers really do have warped imaginations, don't they?
Apparently, Mike P. Nelson wanted to make a movie about how hard it is to hold a marriage together but, instead of a conventional family drama, his protagonists face a battle to survive after an apocalypse has wiped out most of the human race.
Yep, if you are going to know whether your other half is really worth their salt, you need to see them in action against murderous gangs who have taken over the country.
Here, Kate Bosworth and Tyler Hoechlin are the aforementioned husband and wife who are trying to avoid gun-toting maniacs while driving to her parents' home in Milwaukee.
Meanwhile, their fight to stay alive plays out to the backdrop of a crazed foul-mouthed radio DJ and a very eclectic soundtrack.
The latter actually adds a much needed dimension to a film which is a bit of a drudgery.
Ok, the broken marriage element does add intrigue but otherwise there is a giant sense of deja vu about The Domestics.
Cruel gangs do cruel things without any explanation other than they have fallen back to their most base instincts.
There is no detail about why some people survived doom's day and others didn't or why there appears to be no government.
So, the couple simply have to outsmart crazies who are thirsting for their blood across hundreds of miles.
Fans of blood and gore may lap it up but I need more from my movies than The Domestics offers.
I will have forgotten it within a fortnight.

Director quote - Mike P. Nelson: "When I started writing the script I wanted to write a movie about how hard marriage is. I didn't want to write a Kramer vs. Krameresque kind of thing, even though I love that movie, I wanted to do something violent and post-apocalyptic that incorporated a relationship."
The big questions - When push comes to shove will husband and wife always look after each other?
