SOME LIKE IT HOT

BBFC advice: Contains infrequent strong language, moderate sex references
On the wall of our landing is a framed version of the above poster, signed by Tony Curtis.
At least, I hope it is. I think we had proof of provenance when it was first bought but that was many years ago and has been long lost.
Regardless - the fact that the poster can still be seen by anyone who ascents our stairs reflects how much I love Billy Wilder's Some Like It Hot.
However, I have seen it so often that I can't laugh at it any more. Yes, I enjoyed seeing it again but my ribs are, sadly, no longer tickled.
Anyway, there is already a review saying all this on everyfilm.co.uk so this time I shall just offer a few insights to one of cinema's great comedies.
1. Billy Wilder and I.A.L. Diamond's screenplay is based on the French film Fanfare Of Love.
2. Wilder's first choice for the role of Jerry was Frank Sinatra. Jerry Lewis and Danny Kaye were also considered befire he alighted upon Jack Lemmon.
Reasons to watch: One of the greatest movie comedies ever made
Reasons to void: Some may feel it hasn't passed the test of time
Laughs: None any more but many when I first watched it
Jumps: None
Vomit: None
Nudity: None
Overall rating: 9.5/10
Director quote - Billy Wilder on the film's final line: " I go to Europe or if I am in New York sometimes somebody will suddenly stare at me and without saying my name, maybe not even knowing who I am but just that I had something to do with that movie, they'll say, "Nobody's perfect."
The big question - It's a great film but does it pass the test of time?

5. It was nominated for six Oscars but only won one - for best costume design in a black and white film.
