352. The White Storm 2: Drug Lords; movie review

WHITE STORM 2 - DRUG LORDS
Cert 15
99 mins
BBFC advice: Contains strong bloody violence, drug misuse

So, here's the rub... there is nothing very special about much of White Storm 2 - BUT it has one of the most intense car chase scenes I have ever witnessed.
Yep, this is French Connection with knobs on and the pursuit is astonishingly contained to an underground station.
How the cars arrive there, is ingenious in itself.
Otherwise, Herman Yau's movie involves too high a body count and too much destruction to be taken very seriously.
Set in Hong Kong, it centres on a former triad member (Andy Lau) who has tried to put his past behind him and become a respected property tycoon.
He is dead set against those profiting from narcotics and offers $100m to eliminate the number one city drug lord (Louis Koo).
This renews a rivalry from when the two men were ambitious young criminals and this develops into the aforementioned killing sprees.
Trying to stop both men and the illegal drug trade is a chief of police (Michael Miu) who finds his resource is considerably less than theirs.
The truth is that the basic premise of White Storm 2 is unimaginative and its acting and dialogue are stilted.
But some might say its pulsating car chase makes it worth watching and, consequently, gets it to 7/10.

Reasons to watch: Its incredible car chase
Reasons to avoid: Unimaginative premise and stilted dialogue
Laughs: None
Jumps: None
Vomit: None
Nudity: None
Overall rating: 7/10

Did you know? According to the Narcotics Division of the Hong Kong Security Bureau, the total number of reported drug abusers has been on a steady decline since 2008, a 40% drop was recorded from 14,241 in 2008 to 8,777 in 2015. This number was further dropped to 8,239 in 2016 and 6,725 in 2017.
