Perhaps I am just in a bad mood because of the Coronavirus lockdown but I feel as if I have seen a catalogue of poor movies lately.
Ik Sandhu Hunda Si has a cliched-riddled plot and characters which I found unlikeable.
I found it lacking authenticity from the start because its cast are far too old for the parts they are playing.
Rakesh Mehta's movie, which is based at the university city of Chandigarh, surrounds love and rivalry at the time of student elections but everyone on screen is over 30.
Not that they spend any time studying - indeed, more is expended nursing injuries suffered during a litany of fights.
Gippy Grewal plays the movie's hero but even though he is portrayed as a protector against bullies and corruption, all he does is beat heads.
Indeed, there is no obvious sign of him doing any university work - instead he spends his time clubbing perceived enemies with a hockey stick.
Grewal plays the title character, Sandu, who is protector of his pals, Gill (Roshan Prince), Kang (Raghveer Boli) and, confusingly, Grewal (Dheeraj Kumar).
Usually, he doesn't have time for girls but falls head over heels for the beautiful Simran (Neha Sharma) who just happens to be related to the local MP (Pavan Malhotra) and his heavy (Vikramjeet Virk).
When I was a student nobody had the slightest interest who was Students' Union president but clearly it is a much bigger deal in India.
Consequently, all hell breaks loose when the bad guys back their candidate (Jasprem Dhillon) against our hero's chum.
No, really, there are fights galore, lives are threatened and the local politician acts as if it is the most important election since Partition.
There are myriad problems with Mehta's film - its storyline is banal, there are too many fight scenes in which gangs are pitted against an individual and the importance of student bully-boys in a wider context is vastly overblown.
But most importantly, the supposed hero is both stupid and clearly has anger management issues.
It is a most unappealing and unfunny recipe.
Reasons to watch: Moderate action combined with love story
Reasons to avoid: Crass storyline
Laughs: None
Jumps: None
Vomit: None
Nudity: None
Overall rating: 3/10
Did you know? Gippy Grewal holds a hotel management degree. Before he tasted success, he worked as a waiter in New Delhi after which he went to Canada and worked as a security guard.
The final word. Gippy Grewal: "Ik Sandhu Hunda Si is not just an action film it is a complete package of romance, friendship, emotion." India News Calling
