329. 365 Days (365 dni); movie review
The Polish' 50 Shades Of Grey" was the claim and my heart sank.
I have to report that even though my expectation was almost on the floor, 365 Days fell beneath it.
It stars Michele Morrone as Don Massimo Torricelli who inherits a crime ring after his father is shot dead.
The story moves on to three years when a sales director at a luxury hotel (Anna-Maria Sieklucka) is in Sicily and he kidnaps her.
He then gives her 365 days for her to love him.
Apparently, she will go for this because. albeit successful, she 'lacks passion in her private life.'
Let's be honest, Barbara Białowąs and Tomasz Mandes' film, which is based on Blanka Lipinska's very successful book, has a reprehensible premise.
But, my overriding emotion wasn't one of anger, it was a mixture of boredom and frustration at how ludicrous it was.
For example, one of how he tries to lure her to having sex with him is by forcing her to watch him involved in oral activity with another woman.
What a charmer!
He then allows her out in public and, surprise, surprise she misbehaves and that results in mafia gangs going head to head in jealous rages.
And on and and and on.
I loathed 50 Shades Of Grey but at least they were consenting adults.
Here, there seems to be a glorification of both brain-washing and sexual assault. And yet, 365 Days has been a hit, I would be intrigued to understand the reasons that people like it.
Reasons to watch: Pretty people
Reasons to avoid: Reprehensible concept and dull delivery
Laughs: None
Jumps: None
Vomit: Yes
Nudity: Yes
Overall rating: 2/10
Did you know? Stockholm syndrome or capture-bonding is a psychological phenomenon in which hostages express empathy and sympathy and have positive feelings toward their captors, sometimes to the point of defending and identifying with the captors.
The final word. Blanka Lipinska: "We didn't make this film for critics. Who is a critic? You know, a critic is someone who knows a given field. If you are an erotic movie specialist, I would like to know who it is because only such a person's opinion would matter to me."
