How many picture houses across the UK have lived through the golden age of cinema and survived?
In the Midlands, I can think of the Electric in Birmingham, the refurbished Belper Ritz and The Savoy in Nottingham's student heartland.
The Savoy was opened by a consortium of local businessmen in 1935 and was built in the art-deco style with a curved front.
It has the cheapest individual tickets in town but I seldom attend because it doesn't have the same attractive monthly deals as multiplex chains such as Cineworld and Odeon.
Anyway, they weren't playing family comedy Koniec Swiata Czyli Kogel Mogel 4. so I settled down with what I presumed must be six native Polish speakers in screen 3 for Anna Wieczur-Bluszcz's film.
It stars Nikodem Rozbicki and Aleksandra Hamkalo as a happy young couple whose wedding plans are thrown into turmoil by the stirring of a corrupt council official (Anna Mucha) who wrongly believes he has whistleblown on her.
That is far from the first misunderstanding but is the plank for a comedy chase movie in which young groom-to-be searches for his bride to persuade her that he hasn't cheated on her.
Meanwhile, her immature brother (Maciej Zakościelny) lives in luxury with a busty wife (Katarzyna Skrzynecka) whose long-lost mum (Dorota Stalińska) returns from the United States looking for love in her homeland.
Wieczur-Bluszcz's comedy combines slapstick, farce and a few verbal jokes which I admit went over my head but prompted laughter in the auditorium.
It was the sort of film we used to see all the time in the UK led by the Carry On crowd, but has long disappeared from our screens.
Polish people clearly enjoy a bit of bawdiness and personal mockery.
Dare I say that I found it something of a guilty pleasure although, after a while, it was more than a tad repetitive.

Reasons to watch: Lighthearted farce
Reasons to avoid: The laughs go over the head of non-native speakers

Laughs: Chuckles for me - belly-laughs for native speakers
Jumps: None
Vomit: None
Nudity: None
Overall rating: 5.5/10

Did you know? Anna Wieczur-Bluszcz graduated from the Theatre School in Wroclaw, Wajda’s School and the Institute of International Relations at the University of Warsaw. Her directorial debut was Being Like Deyna.

The final word. Writer, Ilona Łepkowska: "It is a crazy story in the style of the first two parts of the series. There will be old heroes and completely unknown ones. And at the end there will be a great kogel mogel, chaos, mishmash and the total end of the world! " Interia Film
