It was 9pm and my car was parked in a dingy NCP in a dark back street of Birmingham city centre as I traipsed in the freezing cold towards New Street Odeon.
There I shared screen five with just two other people for a Nigerian drama.
Yep, this is hardcore everyfilm reporting and I was rewarded with an engaging picture from Adebayo Tijani with a rather thrilling conclusion.
Ijakumo, The Born Again Stripper is aimed squarely at corruption in Lagos, one of the most populous cities in Africa.
It stars Kunle Remi as a pastor of a very well-attended church which turns out to be a front for a 'syndicate' of ruthless businesspeople.
Thus, despite saying hallelujah every other word, it is clear that 'God's spokesman' is actually keen to line his own pockets and live the high life. He also has a penchant for lap dancers.
The film spins back to his youth and how he and his girlfriend fought their way out of poverty.
Spin on 20 years and she is a successful businesswoman who has a heart of gold with a merciless streak against those who have wronged her.
She is portrayed with larger-than-life zeal by the movie's producer Toyin Abraham in later life and Debbie Shokoya in her youth.
In common with many Nigerian films, Ijakumo flies very quickly from scene to scene and that can be off-putting until the brain acclimatises.
But perseverance brings rewards and some intriguing twists with Lolade Okusanya at their heart.
To write more would give the game away but it builds into an explosive finale.
I wasn't keen on my walk back to my car late at night in Birmingham city centre but Ijakumo - The Born Again Stripper was worth it (if you know what I mean!).

Did you know? There are at least 10,000 religious organisations registered in Lagos, Commissioner for Home Affairs, Anofiu Elegushi, said in 2021.

The final word. Toyin Abraham: " IJAKUMO The born again taught me a lot🙏🙏most importantly true and genuine love🙏Thanks to everyone for your love and support 🙏🙏🙌I will never take it for granted." Twitter
