Don't eat before Project Wolf Hunting unless you want to see your meal for a second time.

Kim Hong-sun's movie is a horrific gore fest with bloody violence that doesn't let up for its entire two hours.

Meanwhile, its wafer-thin plot is submerged beneath the mass killings.

The film is set on a cargo ship that is repatriating serious criminals who have escaped to the Philippines from South Korea.

From the start, it is obvious that the accompanying supposedly crack police unit will not be up to the task.

So, the prisoners begin a rampage little knowing that there is literally a monster in their midst.

Initially, it appears that this is a straightforward cops versus criminals battle on a huge boat on the China seas.

Park Ho-san plays the officer in charge, while Seo In-guk portrays a remorseless, heavily tattooed rapist who enjoys a gruesome slaying.

However, as said, there is a secret passenger on board who makes him look like Mary Poppins.

Project Wolf Hunting will be praised by some for its intensity and the many ways in which its characters meet their maker.

However, I fear I am too old to enjoy a movie almost entirely devoid of any meaningful back story until its last five minutes.

The slashing, knifing, shooting, stamping to death and various other means of killing weren't enough to satisfy me.
