215. Little Eggs - An African Rescue (Un rescate de huevitos); movie review *

LITTLE EGGS - AN AFRICAN RESCUE (UN RESCATE DE HUEVITOS)
Cert U
89 mins
BBFC advice: Contains very mild threat, violence, rude humour

Eggs with arms, legs, hair and a face that can get up to all sorts of fun - unless humans are looking at them.
That is the rather odd premise of Little Eggs - An African Rescue.
The humour of Gabriel Riva Palacio Alatriste and Rodolfo Riva Palacio Alatriste's movie may tickle young children (there are three toilet gags in the first 15 minutes).
But parents will be left baffled by the plot that sees the golden eggs of a hen (voiced by Maite Perroni) and rooster (Bruno Bichir) emerge energetic and talking.
An evil Russian aristocrat makes a big offer to buy the eggs after they win first prize at a show but, after a farmer turns her down, she sets out to steal them with the help of her two henchmen.
This results in an epic chase by the hen, the rooster and their friends across the seas to Africa to rescue them.
The fun then moves to the Congo where more exotic animals become involved in the shenanigans.
Despite my misgivings about its storyline, Little Eggs - An African Rescue may still tick the box of children on a rainy summer's day because of its fast pace, vibrant colours and clear divisions between heroes and villains.
However, I suspect it would be more of a time-filler than a movie they will remember for a long time.

Reasons to watch: Fast-paced with moral messages
Reasons to avoid: A very strange premise

Laughs: None
Jumps: None
Vomit: None
Nudity: None
Overall rating: 5/10

Did you know? In 1954 the Protection of Birds Act made egg collecting illegal in Britain. Before this, egg collecting had been a common hobby and thousands of specimens were in public and private collections. The Museum at Tring houses many of them.

The final word. "Rodolfo Riva Palacio Alatriste: "We went out to compete with Hollywood but they have at least ($70 million) and we don't even have ten per cent. So, we are proud to deliver a Mexican product at that level that entertains its audience." Wikipedia
