The Hangover was one of the funniest movies I have ever seen and was the last word in bachelor party films.
Even its own sequels failed to lick the boots of the original and every picture of the genre comes up short of the Todd Phillips classic.
For example, Abhijit Mahesh's Kannada-language Bachelor Party, which takes a few leads from The Hangover's franchise.
It stars Diganth as Santosh, a hardworking software engineer whose lack of gumption means that he is overlooked for promotion at work and dominated by his manipulative wife (Siri Ravikumar) at home.
He is so unhappy in his marriage that he even pays to go to a seminar led by a self-acclaimed relationship guru endorsed by Johnny Depp.
Then, out of character, he is persuaded to go to the bachelor party of a close friend, drinks an unfeasibly large amount and begins a wild adventure.
Alongside him are his reckless childhood pal (Yogesh) and their school PT teacher (Achyuth Kumar) who sees a good time through the bottom of a glass.
On the plus side, Santosh is a likeable lead character. The audience can empathise with his plight and would be willing for him to have a bit of backbone.
And this isn't one of those Indian comedies overwhelmed by shouting and slapstick.
However, its gags miss their mark too often and it does build into a ridiculously over-the-top ending.

Reasons to watch: Likeable lead character
Reasons to avoid: A bit too daft

Laughs: Chuckles
Jumps: None
Vomit: Retching
Nudity: None
Overall rating: 6/10

Did you know? bachelor-type party dates back to the 5th Century BC, where Spartans would celebrate a groom's good fortune the night before the wedding with a large feast.

The final word. Diganth: "I’m confident that Bachelor Party will strike a chord with the audience. Yogi and I share a longstanding camaraderie, and working with him was a joy." Cinema Express
