Forbes published an article in March of this year reporting research that proved it is possible to fall in love with an AI system.
Therefore, Amit Joshi and Aradhana Sah's Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya may not be as far-fetched as it seems.
However, the question arises of whether a robot can reciprocate such emotions.
This conundrum is the essence of the movie, which stars Shahid Kapoor as Aryan, a high-level robotics engineer, and Kriti Sanon as Sifra - a super-intelligent system with the outward features of a beautiful woman.
Aryan's family are desperate for him to marry but he cannot find the right woman and rejects their suggestions.
However, his views change when his aunty (Dimple Kapadia) sets up her personal assistant to look after him.
The pair fall for each other at first sight and even spend the night together but it is then revelaed that her name is made up of acronyms for Super Intelligent Female Robot Automation.
Aryan asks if he can take his aunty's secret experiment a stage further by introducing Sifra to his family as his new girlfriend.
The interplay between Sifra and the family, as well as Aryan's love for the robot, becomes the thrust of Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya.
This is a colourful film, with costumes that catch the eye and some extravagant dance numbers.
The chemistry between Kapoor and Sanon is bright and breezy, as is the interaction with the cast, who play his vast family.
Some might find the premise overstretched but it also makes the audience think about the future possibilities of artificial intelligence.
It may be too frothy for some, but I thought it was worth watching.

Did you know? This movie is inspired by the 2007 Hollywood movie Lars and the Real Girl, starring Ryan Gosling and Bianca, a sex doll.

The final word. Shahid Kapoor: "My take on subjects are now different from what it used to be earlier. So, you will definitely see ‘me’ in my role in Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya, but it’s different. Sometimes you should just have belief in your craft and go ahead." First Post
