Hold on a second, haven't I seen this somewhere before?

The premise of Scott Speer's Endless is so close to the romantic classic Ghost that I had to read up to see if it was a remake.

It wasn't and nor was it anything like as good.

Endless stars Alexandra Shipp as Riley, a star student who falls in love with biker boy, Chris (Nicholas Hamilton).

They have a tumultuous summer but as it comes to an end, she is faced with the decision to take up her place studying law at university.

This causes the pair's first row at a party when he gets drunk.

She borrows a friend's car to drive them home but they are involved in a horrific accident in which she is badly injured.

When she emerges from unconsciousness she discovers that Chris has died but can still feel his presence.

Yep, precisely as in Ghost, his spirit has lifted out of his body and is now traipsing around bumping into other dead people who haven't yet found peace.

One warns him to accept his fate and not get involved with the living but he is headstrong and thinks that he and Riley can somehow be together.

So, he finds a way of appearing to her and her alone (remember Oda Mae in Ghost?) and properly send her off the rails.

Speer's film grated. Its characters are shallow, its storyline is unoriginal and its execution is painful right up to an ending which is utterly predictable.

Thankfully, Endless didn't live up to its name - the clocked seemed to take an age to tick over but we reached the conclusion eventually.

The final word. Alexandra Shipp: "It was really hard to say goodbye to this cast and crew! Our last day, we were filming in a school, and when they called the image of a wrap, it felt like everyone was leaving for the summer! We all work very hard in this film and could not have been enough hugs or well wishes to go around. I really hope I get to work with you all again!" Genesis Brand
