BBFC advice: Contains strong bloody violence

Three years ago, I wrote that the Halloween remake wasn't as bad as I feared and "nicely recreates the late 80s-style horror with its music, titles and atmosphere."

Sadly, as is typical with studios nowadays, producers could not quit while they were ahead and move on.

So, we are left with what appeared to be a completed saga being stretched beyond all reason.

During Halloween Kills, Michael Myers, who appeared to be finished off by Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) in the previous movie has miraculously survived and is even more bloodthirsty.

Any semblance of plot goes out of the window during David Gordon Green's film - this is just one bloody killing after another by an unhinged psychopath who appears to be indestructible.

There is an attempt to recreate the 80s-style with a Carpenter soundtrack and a few flashbacks to the original Halloween.

But those cards had already played three years ago, so there really is nothing new.

Indeed, I was left wondering who watches this sort of thing except people who, like me, feel they have to for the sake of completeness.

I worry that others get off on gratuitous violence or maybe there are some who actually find this type of movie funny?

The final word. David Gordon Green: "As much as I like fresh and innovative kills, it’s also nice to lean in to some clichés and tropes because as a fan it’s fun to play into the genre and let everyone know that I’m a big fan too. " Film Stories
