94. Miłość Jest Blisko; movie review

That's a relief. A Polish movie during which there are neither violent slayings nor an avalanche of body parts.
But, while there's neither machismo nor misogyny's during Radoslaw Dunaszewski's rom-com, there's not much spark.
Indeed, Adam Sliwinski (Wojciech Solarz) must be the wettest male character I have seen in a Polish film.
He is a travel agent who literally splits his and his daughter's house with a childhood friend, Natalia (Weronika Ksiazkiewicz) and her son.
Thus, bizarrely, they share bathrooms and kitchens and, for all intents and purposes, are one family.
Indeed, it is obvious that the adults love each other except they don't seem willing to admit it - possibly because of recent emotional strain (she is a widow and he is a divorcee).
There is a strange order to their lives but, oddly, they encourage each other to try to find love without ever believing they will.
However, against the odds, an explorer (Olga Boladz) who Adam admires throws herself at him and likewise, Natalia's dentist (Grzegorz Malecki) does similarly to her.
Inevitably, this causes stifled jealousy to emerge on both sides while their respective children (Weronika Wachowska and Jan Polovnikow) look on bemusedly.
Miłość Jest Blisko is a lovey-dovey farce with pretty people but without any funny moments. After a while, Adam's character grates because he is simpering and lacking in gumption.
And the biggest issue is that I could have predicted its finale after the first ten minutes.

Reasons to watch: If you like pretty people in rom-coms
Reasons to avoid: Predictable and not funny

Laughs: None
Jumps: None
Vomit: None
Nudity: None
Overall rating: 4/10

Did you know? Section nine of the UK dental code of practice states: "You must maintain appropriate boundaries in the relationships you have with patients. You must not take advantage of your position as a dental professional in your relationships with patients."

The final word. Radek Dunaszewski:"Our film is a cheerful story about destiny and discovering true feelings. It is for the viewer who wants to feel better, laugh and dream, and this is the quintessence of cinematic entertainment." Interia
