BBFC advice: Contains strong bloody violence, gore
What makes famous singers think they can act?
Even The Beatles' movies were awful but had the saving grace of classic soundtracks played by the band.
I feared that Studio 666 would be ghastly but thought I would be able to put up with it because the Foofighters would be playing new music.
Sadly, the only tune I heard was during the closing credits as I trudged away from screen 10 at Derby Odeon. By that stage, I just wanted to go home.
The 70s-style B-movie is the baby of Foofighters' leader Dave Grohl who wrote the script and is very much the film's focus.
The rest of the band have peripheral roles and even look slightly embarrassed to be involved.
BJ McDonnell's movie begins with a violent killing at a mansion in 1993.
It then moves on to the present day at a record label boardroom where an exaggerated executive (Jeff Garlin) demands the band start putting together a new album.
Because it will be their 10th, Grohl, who writes The Foofighters' songs, says it needs to be recorded at a venue with a special atmosphere.
Inevitably, the one presented to them is where the slaying had happened in 1993.
As his band looks on agog, Grohl proclaims that they should not only record their album but also stay in the house despite its creepiness.
They aren't even put off when their fixer is the first to meet an untimely end.
Studio 666 is 106 minutes of gore and really bad acting. It is not a mix which I would find funny but clearly others in the audience did because they were chortling.
I was simply bored and wished The Foofighters had stuck to rock 'n' roll.
Reasons to watch: The Foofighters
Reasons to avoid: Gore and awful acting
Laughs: None for me but others were laughing
Jumps: None
Vomit: Yes
Nudity: None
Overall rating: 2/10
Did you know? The name Foo Fighters refers to a term coined by allied forces during World War II that was used to describe unidentified flying objects.
The final word. BJ McDonnell: "I wanted it to be fun,” he said. “I wanted the kills to be fun to where people can cheer and be excited about it... Hopefully, wherever you see it, it kicks ass for you and you have a great time. Just get everybody together, drink up, and have fun." Gizmodo
