79. Peppa's Cinema Party; movie review

PEPPA'S CINEMA PARTY
Cert U
66 mins
BBFC advice: Contains no material likely to harm or offend
I have watched 6,500+ movies since 2011 as part of my quest to watch every film released in the UK but this is the occasion I will remember the most.
I may not recall the details of Peppa's Cinema Party, but I will always remember that it was our granddaughter's first visit to the pictures.
The kind staff member took a photo of Mrs W, me and the little one outside of Derby Odeon and presented her with a certificate to mark the occasion.
She is only eight months old, so she didn't recognise the landmark, but we and her mum, who was also present, certainly did.
Anyway, after the indignities of a changed nappy in the toilet, it was time for Peppa (voiced by Amelie Bea Smith) to take centre stage.
Our little lass (from now on, Miss B) would recognise Peppa and the famous tune from the TV, so for a little while, she was entranced by seeing one of her favourites on what must have seemed like a screen as big as a mountain.
Usually, Peppa cinema shows are made up of four or five episodes strung together, but this has more focus on celebrating her 20th anniversary.
It centres on the gruff Mr Bull (David Rintoul) announcing that he is due to marry Mrs Cow (Judy Flynn) the next day.
They still need to organise a cake or rings and appeal to Peppa to be their bridesmaid and her dad (Richard Ridings) as best man.
Other sketches in Andrea Tran's picture involve a lot of mess, human children, and, of course, muddy puddles.
Miss B. was wide-eyed at some parts and distracted during others, but she lasted 66 minutes until its end.
We all agreed this was a great success and I cannot wait to take her again - indeed, I was buzzing for hours afterwards.
It was a dream come true.

Did you know?  Peppa Pig's creators Mark Baker, Neville Astley and Phil Davies went from animation graduates at Middlesex Polytechnic in the 1980s to creating a global franchise worth £660m.

The final word. Hasbro senior VP of global brand management Esra Cafer:  " Peppa encourages kids and families around the world to jump in together with confidence, and this new cinema experience will bring those beloved characters to life in a new way."
